Congratulations to Orla O'hEocha, Connie Quinn, Ketih Coakley & Will Canavan who represented Killerig in the regional finals of the 3T's Competiton in St Margarets yesterday Wednesday 1st September. The team came out overall winners out of 30 teams from all over the country and will now go on to represent Killerig in the National Finals to be held in The K Club on October 12th. The very best of luck to them all!!

Well done also to our Brennan Cup team who were pipped to the post on Sunday last by Kilkenny GC. 4 out of 5 matches went to the 19th hole and the 5th match went to the 20th hole. Having had to give up Saturday after 6hours of golf, 2 matches went back to Arlow GC Sunday to decide the game. Comiserations to the lads and well done on getting on so well!!

Congratulations to Billy Costello, Thomas Begley & Brian Hutchinson who finished 3rd out of 24 teams in the Musgraves Rumble for Crumlin Competition last Thursday. Well done lads, a great finish!!

Captains Prize 2010

What a fantastic turnout on a fantastic day last Sunday when over 100 members joined Phil & Orla for their Prize day. It was a long day for all and well done to those top 16 who went on to a 9 hole playoff after 5pm sunday evening which ended with great suspense as Craig Godfrey (12) pipped Mick Cottam (11) to the winning post by half a point!!! Craig won with 102 points followed by Mick on 102.5 and 3rd was Des Kavanagh (13) on 103.5. There was only a 10 point difference in the top 16 so well done to all. Ladies top honours went to Lady President Vicky Clarke who was delighted to accept 1st prize from Lady Captain Orla.

Dinner was served after the main competition and much thanks to our own Billy Costello who, having tee'd off at 7.15am, was in the kitchen by 11.30 creating fabulous meals and desserts for all. The festivities coontinued into the early hours as always and thanks to everyone for making the day such a huge success.

Presidents Prize 2010

Lady President Vicky Clarke held her Prize Day on Sunday July 4th and despite tough weather it turned out to be a fantastic day. A shotgun start at 9am saw nearly 90 members braving the conditions and waiting eagerly on their tee boxes for the singles stableford competition. Bundled up against wind & rain, each team were in high spirits as they hit the 1st tee box and were snapped for the club photo albums! Being the 4th of July, Vicky had decided to have an american theme to the days proceedings and there was a prize for best dress which went to Willie Kelly, who was smartly decked out in red, white & blue. Once everybody was in off the course, they enjoyed a satisfying dinner prepared by Chef Paddy who swiftly fed each and every member all at once, no mean feat in any terms!! Prizegiving followed where Mr Tom Deane took the honours with 36 points. Tom is a long standing member here in the club and all were delighted that he won the prestigous prize. PJ O'Leary was runner up, narrowly beaten on the back 9. Longest drive on the day went to Trevor Shirley & Larry Doyle won Nearest the Pin. Best Gross was taken by Liam Ashby.

Vicky congratulated all the winners and thanked all for their support on her big day. She was joined on the day by her son Victor, who played in the competition and her daughters who joined her for the prizegiving.

The team here in Killerig congratulate our Lady President on the outstanding success of her day and hope everyone enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward to a similar turnout on the 18th for Phil Ryans Captains Prize.

10th Anniversary Celebrations

Killerig Golf Club celebrated 10 years in business on Thursday May 6th. In order to spread the word on this great occassion we held an Open Weekend from Friday April 30th to Monday May 3rd. We had competitions each day which also incorporated a Hole In One competition in which you had the opportunity to win a car valued at €10,000 for the charity of your choice. Unfortunately we had no Hole In One's although there were a few near misses!! The whole weekend was a great success and everyone throughly enjoyed our Birthday BBQ which was held on Sunday evening and followed by entertainment in Branigans Bar. We topped it off on a fabulous Bank Holiday monday with a 4 person Scramble with drew a crowd of nearly 150 golfers. We do hope everyone who passed through Killerig on this weekend enjoyed it as much as we did and we look forward to seeing all the new faces again soon.

As the 1st game of golf ever played in Killerig tee'd off on May 6th 2000, we held a charity classic here on Thursday May 6th 2010 in aid of Carlow Hospice. It was a lovely day and all teams enjoyed themselves and were happy to support such a great cause.

May 6th also happened to be the birthday of our lovely Lady Captain Orla O'hEocha so everyone here at Killerig wish Orla O'hEocha a very happy birthday and we hope she enjoyed her day!!

Captains Drive In 2010

Captains Drive In 2010 was held yesterday and a magnificent day it was! Ignoring the bitter wind and welcoming the glorious sunshine, Phil & Orla started proceedings at 10am on the 1st tee box with a huge crowd of members looking on & Lady Captain Orla received a brilliant round of applause for her powerful drive. This great start set the tone for a great day. Everyone was all smiles as each team was captured on camera when they reached the 1st teebox and they were still smiling when they came in for their meal. Gorgeous food was supplied by Chef Paddy in the kitchen as always and the atmosphere in the bar was fantastic. The craic continued into the evening as everyone relaxed after a hard days golf. Thanks to all the members for coming out and supporting the captains and making the day enjoyable in everyway and we do hope you all enjoyed it!

A huge congratulations to Captain Phil & Lady Captain Orla on the success of their big day and the best of luck from all the team in Killerig for the year ahead.

Santa Clause visited Killerig on Sunday 20th December to see all the boys & girls and deliver presents to everyone. Despite the weather & road conditions, plenty of families came out to greet him & the kids enjoyed a puppet show & mini disco afterwards. There was great atmosphere in the bar as the kids played and the parents chatted and we do hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Killerig Ladies Club enjoyed their annual Mulled Wine Reception on Dec 19th in Branigans Bar. There was a great turn out & all had a lovely day despite the lack of golf. We wish Orla & the ladies a great christmas & a Happy & prosperous New Year and perhaps next year will see a few new faces in the club.

Killerig Golf Members Christmas Party was held in Branigans Bar last Friday Night the 11th December.

It was a fantastic night and thanks to all who made it. DJ Darren Brady kept everyone entertained throughout the night and even enticed a few guests up to showcase their hidden talents with Karaoke.

Congratulations to this years prize winners who were prestented with their trophies by Captain Phil Ryan & Lady Captain Orla O'hEocha & thanks to all who supported the raffle and won some great prizes.

Our Chef extraordinaire Paddy provided excellent, tasty nibbles for everyone also & they went down very well & kept guests going as it was the early hours of Saturday morning before the party wound down, after the guitars had come out and the singalong began! :-)

We do hope everyone enjoyed themselves & we are already looking forward to seeing you all plus more next year.
